Case Sharing: Creating the Invisible Shield – How Andisco Engineered an Oil-Defying PC Film for Industrial Clarity
When Frank approached us with a video showing motor oil cascading off an unknown material like water on a lotus leaf, their ask was clear yet complex: “Make us this – but better.” No samples, no specs – A piece of POLYCARBONATE FILM dripped with engine oil was tilted at will, and the oil droplets rolled freely without any residue.. Here’s how we transformed their vision into a 10-day reality.
The Challenge: Physics Meets Practicality
Frank’s ideal material needed to achieve two conflicting feats:
Oil Repellency Wizardry – Make thick engine oils roll off like morning dew (Contact angle ≥108°) Vertical Surface Grip – Stick securely to equipment windows yet allow tool-free replacement “Think of it as screen protector for large-sized mobile phone!” Here it is ! we are good at conveying complex and profound technical problems to customers through simple and understandable metaphors, so that they can understand more easily.
Phase 1: Cracking the Oil-Shedding Code
Our labs dissected the video frame-by-frame, isolating three non-negotiables:
Nano-Level Smoothness (Surface roughness Ra ≤0.1μm) – The “ice rink” effect for oils.
UV-Stable Chemistry – To withstand engine heat cycles without yellowing.
Optical Neutrality – Zero distortion for safety-critical visual checks.
The Breakthrough: By day 3, we’d prototyped a 0.5mm optical PC film with excellent transmittance of light: Base Layer – Impact PC for vibration resistance Top Coat – Fluoropolymer hybrid achieving 112° contact angle (oil/water) Final Performance - The contact surface between the oil droplets and the film did not expand. When they slid back and forth, there was no residue, as if they had never been there.

Phase 2: The Adhesion Solution
Victory turned to puzzle when Frank’s revealed: “Oh, and it needs to cling vertically without adhesives.”
